Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) diagnostic kit is a practical alternative to the conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and standard microbiological techniques in the detection of White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV), a prevalent and lethal virus for the shrimp population. The technology is 10 times more sensitive in detecting WSSV compared to using PCR.
The LAMP diagnostic kit is aided by a heat block apparatus, which replaces the expensive thermal cycler and can provide results within one (1) hour. The technology can also be used on-site due to its convenience, simplicity, and speedy detection. Moreover, the utilization of locally fabricated machine will significantly bring down the cost of pathogen detection in the country.
