The use of synthetic fertilizers incurs one of the most significant expenses for farmers and adversely affects soil fertility and quality. As such, there are ongoing efforts to promote the use of biofertilizers for a more sustainable and profitable agriculture.

The Controlled-Release NanoFertilizer aims to replace conventional fertilizer thereby also reducing the production costs in farming. This biofertilizer utilizes the inherent properties of nanofertilizer, such as controlled release of nitrogen (N) and using greater surface area for higher absorption rate. By using CRNF, up to 50% of fertilizer use can be reduced, and farmers can still acquire the targeted plant growth and development.
