Prevention and early detection is the key to reducing the risks of diseases in shrimp production. The Biosensor Kit for Shrimp is an affordable, rapid, and easy-to-use diagnosis that uses a genome-based lateral flow strip biosensor to detect White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) and other shrimp pathogens.

The detection kit comes with field-ready test strips with an extraction and mobile device kit for first-level screening of pathogens on site. The test strips may also be coupled with Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) amplification of DNA extracts for faster and low level detection and may be multiplexed for simultaneous detection of more than one pathogen.

The Biosensor Kit can be used with its accompanying mobile application that instantaneously allows the test results of the diagnostic strips to be fed into an online pathogen information resource and biosurveillance system. The mobile strip reader will link the data captured by the mobile app to the cloud server, which in turn is linked to a biosurveillance data center at the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC).
