The Philippines is the leading producer of abaca, one of the world’s in-demand natural fiber. However, the production of abaca has been declining due to the prevalence of diseases in abaca plants. To prevent further loss in the production, one of the innovations developed is the detection kit for the detection of Abaca Bunchy Top Virus (ABTV).
The technology is based on the principle of Dot-ELISA (Enzyme Link Immunosorbent Assay). The primary component of the diagnostic kit is the antiserum generated to specifically detect the presence of the virus. The generated antibody can detect infection even in the lowest concentration.
